Hello...
I'm Huy Tu. I created the VoiceVoSi website to help anyone find their dream voice for singing, speaking, and ventriloquism, no matter where they are or how old they are. You can even train on your own if you want. I did. I am self-taught. This site has material for my upcoming book, 'VoiceVoSi: Simple Steps to Unlocking Your Singing, Speaking, and Ventriloquism Potential'.
My first language is Vietnamese. There are different Vietnamese accents, like the one you might know from nail salons, making you laugh and laugh by the popular Anjelah Johnson's skits. There are fancier Vietnamese accents, kind of like how English has the "Received Pronunciation" accent in The King's Speech movie, where a king tries and tries to stop his stuttering. But in general, Vietnamese sounds more nasal and in the front of the mouth, while English is more toward the back of the throat.
I still remember when I started learning English in my early teens. It was so cool to hear all these new sounds, even though sounding like a native English speaker seemed impossible. Vietnamese and other Asian languages mold the vocal tracts so differently. In addition to consonants and vowels, Vietnamese has tones, like falling, rising, fast rising... It's hard for Vietnamese to learn English as the rhythm is different. Even when the English words are spoken correctly, the rhythm is Vietnamese and so it does not sounds like English to a native English speaker.
I gave up on sounding perfect in English and stuck to playing the piano, science, math, gardening, and other solo activities until I saw the movies "My Fair Lady." Have you seen it lately? The 2015 Blu-ray restored version is 4K - from 8K original. My Fair Lady is based on Pygmalion, a play by George Bernard Shaw from 1913, inspired by the Greek myth of “Pygmalion and Galatea” where a sculptor fell in love with his created statue, then Venus turns it into a real person. What about My Fair Lady? Why is this story cool? Because a big-shot Voice Professor thinks he can turn a street vendor into someone who talks like high English society in just six months.
I kept watching these movies for inspiration, even though I failed every time I tried to copy the singers and actors' voices. It felt like a world I couldn't reach. Some said I should not sing. I disagree, everyone likes some songs, and be benefit from humming or singing karaoke. Karaoke is a therapeutic activity for hundreds of millions around the world. Singing well is not a requirement for singing-for-wellness, but loving to sing is.
I didn't give up on singing, even though I only got a little better over four years with a small limited baritone voice being 5'6". But I sing and hum all the time, sometimes 8 to 12 hours a day. Then something awesome happened one day while I sang and yoga at the same time. This never happens because in yoga, you watch your breath while moving, silence only. I noticed, to my surprise... something lifted... I could reach many notes easily for the first time with yoga poses stretching my neck.
Got any cool yoga stories? I do. I had a damaged back from sitting in front of computers for years. Doctors said surgery or yoga? I chose yoga. After 4 years, my back is as perfect as it can be. Unbelievable? Yes. Amazing? Yes. True? Yes.
If yoga can do that for my back, can it do the same for my voice? Can it break down old muscles to build me a new voice? Can it help me get my dream voice?
If the king can cure his stuttering, and my fair lady can change her voice, perhaps there is hope for my voice.
I created new throat-pharynx exercises (yoga) for singing and packing air to the throat to enlarge it. At first, I used a piece of carrot to keep my teeth still to make a lever. After 2 year, in Oct 2023, I could lock my teeth and speak from my throat, enable ventriloquism. The two songs "Beauty and the Beast", and "I see the Light" demo locked-teeth practice for stable embouchure, giving more resonance.

Beauty and the Beast
I See the Light
Demo practicing using locked-teeth. While this embouchure does not have the full resonance of normal parted-teeth position, it can provide a basic resonance, and clear sound.
Circle of Life
The Circle of Life -Lion King
One semitone lower than Eb. This has the least distortion.

In a year and a half, my singing and speaking are significantly better from practicing with clenched and locked teeth and throat-yoga. Clenched teeth singing is like singing with a straw but teeth clenched and lips moving, jaw stays still, turning the throat into a flute-like instrument.
The result? I am nearly there, my dream of having my best voice, whether talking, singing, or even ventriloquism. It's an incredible journey of voice discovery, but also a journey of self discovery. Like a kungfu master, a võ sĩ (Vietnamese for martial artist). Thus VoiceVoSi.
What seemed hard is easy now. Our bodies can get used to things that seem impossible. My Fair Lady and The Kings' Speech are both possible. Getting a new voice for singing, speaking, and ventriloquism is possible.
Your dream voice is there waiting to be found. Unlocking your potential in singing and speaking is within reach.. Like Yoga, it's never too late.
Best journeys.
